PleoPharma presents research survey findings characterizing women's experiences with frequent cannabis use, cessation efforts, and cannabis withdrawal symptoms.
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa., Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- PleoPharma, Inc., a clinical-stage development company focused on cannabis-related health issues, announced today that it will present findings from a survey of women who reported frequent cannabis use and were intending to quit or reduce cannabis. A poster presentation highlighting the data will be presented on October 22nd at 6:15-7:15 PDT at The Menopause Society's 2026 Annual Meeting, held in San Diego.
Results of an online research survey performed by Bryter Inc. included 146 women who had tried to stop, reduce use, or take a break from cannabis. The data revealed that 90% of respondents reported at least one withdrawal symptom. 61% of respondents said symptoms began quickly within 24 hours of last use, and 12% within 3 hours. Overall, 84% of women reported seeking medical help to cut back or stop cannabis, or to manage withdrawal symptoms, and about two-thirds said they were interested in a medication assisted treatment to help with cannabis withdrawal/cannabis use disorder.
The findings come as cannabis use disorder rises among women in midlife and beyond. National survey data from 2021 to 2024 reported an approximately twofold increase in moderate to severe cannabis use disorder among women ages 35 to 49 and a sevenfold increase among women 50 and older. ¹
Shelli Graham, PhD., senior vice president of clinical research and medical affairs at PleoPharma said, "This research survey adds to the expanding body of evidence regarding women's experiences with cannabis dependence and highlights the need for a product to help those women trying to reduce their cannabis use. "
